Pierre Bensusan is a French – Algerian guitarist who is world renowned for his beautiful compositions and captivating performances.

I first saw Pierre in concert when I was about 15 years old, at The Prism Coffeehouse in Charlottesville. It was such an eye (& ear) opening experience, as my Spanish teacher at the time suggested that I go because Pierre played solely with his fingers and no guitar pick (which was what I liked to do when I played). I first thought of Pierre’s music as “classical guitar,” which he is definitely influenced by but also blends in other genres into his music. Most artists tend to shy away from a description of their sound because they may feel that it is truly original and cannot (or should not) fit into a box. Well, in Pierre’s case there truly isn’t a correct description of his music, except that it is exceptionally beautiful.

For this “Pun Pick’s” session, I was unable to catch him to do a solo piece without an audience, so I am happy to feature this fun performance of his tune “Intuite,” live at his show on Friday, Feb. 22nd. Pierre has a few dates left on his U.S. tour, so please check out his schedule to see if he’s coming to your area at www.pierrebensusan.com.
